What Ahpra is

Ahpra works with the national boards to register health practitioners. Dentists, optometrists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, podiatrists, psychologists, occupational therapists, pharmacists and Chinese medicine practitioners (including acupuncturists) must all be registered to practise.

How to search

  • Go to ahpra.gov.au and open the Register of practitioners.
  • Search by the practitioner's name or registration number (for example, dental numbers start with DEN).
  • Check the registration status, profession and whether any conditions apply.

Professions not registered with Ahpra

Remedial massage therapists, dietitians, speech pathologists, audiologists and counsellors aren't registered with Ahpra; they're usually accredited by a professional association. Insurers usually require that membership before you can claim — ask the provider before booking.

Our provider pages list practitioners' registration numbers so you can check them yourself.
