Chinese-speaking lactation consultants in Sydney
Lactation consultants help with breastfeeding problems — latching, milk supply, sore or engorged breasts, pumping and weaning. Many offer home visits or online sessions, handy when getting out is hard after birth.

What is a lactation consultant?
A lactation consultant holds the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential, awarded by exam through IBLCE and renewed regularly. Many are also midwives or nurses. The IBCLC credential itself isn't registered with Ahpra.
What a lactation consultant does
- Watch a feed and help with latch and positioning
- Help with milk supply, engorgement and nipple pain
- Plans for pumping, returning to work and weaning
How they differ from similar roles
Midwives are Ahpra-registered and care for you through pregnancy, birth and after, including feeding advice. Lactation consultants focus on breastfeeding and have more experience with complex feeding problems.
When to see a lactation consultant
- Trouble with latching, or pain while feeding
- Worried about too much or too little milk
- Pumping before going back to work, or weaning
How Extras usually pays
Typical price $120–$170; Extras typically pays $30–$70 (per visit).
(Estimate only — your insurer has the final say)
Cover varies a lot: some insurers include lactation consultants under pregnancy or allied health limits, others don't cover them. Check in your insurer's app or by phone before booking, including whether home visits and online sessions count.

Lactation consultants aren't Ahpra-registered as such (those who are also midwives or nurses are registered for that). Look for an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) — you can check on the IBLCE website.
