What it is

An optometrist tests your vision and eye health and fits glasses or contact lenses. An orthoptist helps with squints, lazy eye and eye coordination.

Who it's for

Anyone who needs new glasses, gets tired eyes from screens, older parents, and children who need a squint or lazy-eye check.

How often

Many optometrists suggest an eye test every 1–2 years.

How Extras usually covers it

Typical price $250–$600; Extras typically pays $150–$300 (per pair of glasses).

(Estimate only — your insurer has the final say)

Glasses and contacts usually have a per-person yearly (or two-yearly) limit — one pair can use it up. Orthoptics is covered on some policies. The eye test itself is often covered by Medicare.

Good to know

  • Some optical stores offer "no gap" packages for Extras members — ask before choosing frames.
  • Contacts and glasses usually share the same limit.

Questions
