Speech pathologists help children and adults with speech, language, pronunciation, stuttering and swallowing. Bilingual children can be assessed by a Chinese-speaking therapist.

When to see a speech pathologist

  • A child who is a late talker or hard to understand
  • Stuttering, or speech and swallowing problems after a stroke

Qualifications and registration

Speech pathologists aren't Ahpra-registered; look for a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) with Speech Pathology Australia.
