Pregnancy & postnatal

Dietitian, pregnancy physio, antenatal/postnatal classes, lactation support

What it is

Support before and after birth: a dietitian for pregnancy nutrition, a physio for pregnancy back pain and postnatal pelvic floor and core recovery, antenatal and postnatal classes, and a lactation consultant for feeding.

Who it's for

Women planning a pregnancy, pregnant, or who have just had a baby.

How often

As your practitioner suggests; a pelvic floor check around 6 weeks after birth is common.

How Extras usually covers it

Typical price $120–$170; Extras typically pays $30–$70 (per visit).

(Estimate only — your insurer has the final say)

Pregnancy physio usually comes from your physio limit and dietitian visits from your dietitian limit. Antenatal/postnatal classes and lactation support have their own limit on some policies.

Good to know

  • You can ask for a female practitioner — just tell us when booking.
  • Giving birth in hospital is covered by Hospital cover, not Extras.

Questions

Is it separate from my normal physio limit?
Most insurers count it in the same physio limit; a few keep it separate. Check your policy.
Can I claim antenatal classes?
Some policies cover antenatal and postnatal classes from approved providers.
