ExtrasMate is not a medical provider. We don't diagnose or recommend specific practitioners or treatments; we organise and show information so you can choose for yourself. The savings come from your private health rebate and the provider's own pricing, not from coupons we issue.

How to make it go further

You can start with a GP mental health plan for Medicare rebates, then use your Extras once those sessions run out. You usually can't claim the same session from both Medicare and Extras.

What this limit usually covers

Your policy decides exactly what's included and how much each pays.

Common questions

Extras or a Medicare mental health plan?
A GP mental health plan gives a set number of Medicare-rebated sessions each year. You usually can't claim the same session from both. Extras can help with extra sessions, or with counselling that doesn't need a GP plan.
Is all counselling covered?
Some insurers cover it, usually only if the counsellor is registered with a recognised body such as ACA or PACFA. Check your policy.
Can I claim on the spot?
If the provider uses HICAPS, swipe your health fund card and pay only the gap. If not, pay in full and claim from your insurer yourself.

Other limit types

What a combined limit is called, what it covers and how much it pays differ by insurer and policy. Your insurer's confirmation is what counts.
